This paper presents an analysis of fatal accidents in the Construction sector by size of company. Its overall objective is to identify a possible relationship between the accident rate and size of registered companies in which they occur. To this end, based on theoretical concepts an empirical investigation is performed consisting on the analysis of statistical data provided by the official regulators (GEP and Eurostat) and on the analysis of surveys conducted with the responsible persons from different companies with different dimension. The result of this study is not conclusive because contradictory facts are obtained, on one hand the statistical analysis shows that fatal accidents per employee increases with increasing size of the company, on the other hand, through the interviews it’s possible to understand that the increasing size of the companies increases the internal safety mechanisms. In any case, this study is, if nothing else, a contribution to the discussion of this problem.
