Description
/*** Summary - It was verified at the Sub-Região de Saúde de Évora that the employees' absenteeism reached considerable values. One of the reasons evoked by the literature for such phenomenon was the burnout syndrome (unableing effect of a lingering exhibition to stress conditions at work). This study intended to investigate if a relationship between the absenteeism and a larger prevalence of the dimensions that characterize the burnout existed. A questionnaire that included a translated and adapted version of Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey, instrument thoroughly used in studies about the evaluation of burnout, was applied, during October 2001, to medical doctors, nurses, administrative and auxiliary employees, that belonged to the staff of the Centros de Saúde, of the Sub-Região de Saúde, and had direct contact with the customers of the services. On a global analysis a low prevalence of the dimensions that characterize the burnout and a relationship between the absenteeism and a larger prevalence of those dimensions was verified.
