Os jovens e a formação profissional inicial: contributo para a compreensão das dinâmicas da formação profissional inicial

Pretende-se com este estudo, desenvolvido no contexto de uma Escola Profissional, contribuir para a compreensão do papel que a formação profissional inicial desempenha, enquanto modalidade de formação alternativa ao sistema formal de ensino e enquanto medida estratégica de modernização e desenvolvimento sócio-económico e cultural da sociedade portuguesa. O trabalho assenta nos pressupostos de que a formação profissional inicial, ao alargar as escolhas dos alunos após a escolaridade obrigatória, constitui uma alternativa de formação para quem não a obtiver pela via regular, possibilita a progressão dos jovens no sistema educativo, proporciona novas oportunidades de formação e de realização pessoal e social e visa contribuir para a formação de quadros intermédios indispensáveis ao processo de reestruturação económica e social do nosso país. A pesquisa teve em vista analisar e compreender as razões que levaram estes jovens a optar pela formação profissional inicial, investigar o grau de satisfação dos jovens face ao tipo de formação e curso escolhidos e compreender a importância desta Escola Profissional no seio da comunidade. Para esse efeito foram analisadas questões relativas à politica da formação profissional no âmbito do sistema educativo português e à orientação escolar e profissional dos jovens ao longo da escolaridade. O estudo utilizou uma estratégia não-experimental, designadamente o estudo de caso. Na recolha da informação foram utilizados inquéritos por questionários, para os alunos e professores, e entrevistas semi-estruturadas para o Director e Coordenadora Pedagógica da Escola Profissional Dos resultados há a salientar em relação aos alunos, que são diversas as razões que os levaram a optar pela formação profissional. Destaca-se a preocupação dos jovens em obter um diploma facilitador da sua inserção na vida activa e em obter um grau académico que possibilite a continuação dos estudos. E, ainda, o facto da maior parte deles considerar estar satisfeito com o tipo de formação e curso escolhidos. No que respeita à Escola Profissional, considera-se que tem desenvolvido uma intervenção importante no seio da comunidade, tanto ao nível da adequação da sua oferta de formação, visando responder da melhor forma às necessidades locais, como ao nível da integração dos alunos formados no mercado de trabalho local. ## Abstract - This research, carried out in the context of a Private Vocational School, aimed at contributing to the understanding of the role initial vocational education plays, as an alternative to the state public education and as a strategy towards modernization and development of the Portuguese society, at the social, economic, and cultural levels. It is based on the premise that, by widening the choices open to students after the years of compulsory schooling, the initial vocational training provides to young people new opportunities for skill and knowledge acquisition offering, at the same time, a possibility of going on with their education. It also plays an important role in the promotion of the economic and social development of one country through training intermediate staff for the production sectors. The research intended analyse and understand the reasons why those young people had chosen the initial vocational education, to examine the extent to which they were satisfied with the type of training they had chosen, and to understand the importance for the community of that Private Vocational School. Therefore, the present study has analysed the vocational education in the frame of the Portuguese School System and the educational and vocational guidance of young people throughout their school life. Data was collected by semi-structured interviews and through two questionnaires specificalls developed and tested for the study. The questionnaires were answered by students and teachers, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with the Director and the Pedagogic Co-ordinator of that Vocational School. The results showed that the students had chosen vocational education for several reasons. The most relevant reason was their concern of getting a diploma in order to more easily be integrated into a professional career without loasing the possibility of access to further education. In addition, the majority of students showed to be satisfied with the type of vocational educational they had chosen. The role and action of the Private Vocational School were considered important for the community, in terms of the both the type of training offered and level of the placement of the students in the local job market.
