Description
Between the 12th and 16th centuries, the bowed da braccio instrument played a significant role in the instrumental accompaniment of voices. At that time, along with the great development of instrumental music, a new instrument, the violin, appeared, which included the main organological and musical features of its predecessors. In the present work, we will join these instruments on a journey with regard to their context and repertoire, in accordance with an analysis of their sources, i.e. iconography, historical documents, material remains, as well as practical experience with reconstructed instruments, including their organological transformation. To that end, this work will be divided into three chapters: 1) Typology of sources 2) The Middle Ages and the 3) Renaissance.
