Modern museums can easily have a bad acoustic behavior due to the widespread use of very smooth and reflective coatings, high-ceiling and very expressive volumes. This work studies the specific needs of these buildings and recommends optimal values for the parameters of interest (RT, LAeq background noise and RASTI). The Modern Art Museum of Serralves (Porto), was acoustically characterized by in situ measurements and a survey to visitors. The values obtained were RT about 4 s, LAeq-bgn between 27 to 41 dB and RASTI of 0.4. When compared with the ideal values, the interuior acoustics could be improved, and some suggestions are presented. A comparison of results with other modern museums is also shown.
