Description
The forex market is essential for exchanges between economic agents in different countries, in which most of the time such transactions require that there is an exchange of one currency for another. To this end, and taking into account all existing operations in the foreign exchange market, it is essential to understand why and predict with the utmost reliability, the behavior of the same. That is why the study of volatility is essential to all involved in the financial markets, even prediciting the ups and downs of the prices. There are several events that cause an effect on the volatility of assets, causing behaviors that can be studied through models such as GARCH, ARCH model variant. With this, we intend to realize through research the essential functioning of the forex market, as well as emphasize the oscillations and estimate its existing modeling volatility in the exchange rate USD/GBP in the period of 20 July 1998 to 11 July 2014, in the sense of studying the largest volatility clusters over the 15 years in review. By modeling the volatility, it confirms the existence of clusters and proves that the sample was heteroscedastic, where applying the AR-GARCH model the effects captured in the data, thus justifying the use of models of conditional heteroskedasticity.
