A presente pesquisa foi desenvolvida no âmbito de um projeto de investigação mais alargado, intitulado “Reconciliação e conflitos sociais depois de violência em larga escala na África Austral: os casos de Angola e da Namíbia”. A problemática específica deste trabalho consistiu em pesquisar a importância (saliência) e a variação das identidades sociais, o seu condicionamento pelas categorias sociais de referência e o “significado” do sentido de pertença que se torna patente. Constituindo um estudo de caso, a pesquisa aqui levada a cabo procurou analisar o modo como a população do bairro da Caponte da cidade de Benguela estrutura o pensamento social identitário a partir de um conjunto de identidades sociais previamente definidas, bem como o modo como estas se articulam entre si no contexto pós-colonial angolano. A análise (qualitativa e quantitativa) dos dados recolhidos permitiu constatar um forte sentimento de identificação às identidades sociais definidas, influenciando explicitamente a forma como representam as saliências identitárias na estruturação entre elas. Por extensão, a análise fatorial evidenciou a dimensão tendenciosa dos indivíduos em se identificarem essencialmente em termos de idade, etnia e género. Esta dimensão é claramente distinta de outra a partir da qual procurei situar os indivíduos num contexto definido em termos de região geográfica, de periferia urbana e de sistema político dominante.
This research was conducted as part of a broader research project entitled "Reconciliation and social conflict in aftermath of large – scale violence in southern Africa: the cases of Angola and Namibia", whose problem was to investigate the importance (salience) and the change of social identities over time, the characteristics attributed to the social categories of reference and "meaning " sense of belonging to these categories. As one case study, the research that we conducted was to analyze how the population of the district of the city of Benguela Caponte structures thought social identity and your boss from a set of social identities previously defined by us as well and how these articulate with each other in the post-colonial Angola. The analysis (qualitative and quantitative) data collected allowed us to find a strong sense of identification with social identities defined by influencing explicitly represent how the bumps in the structuring of identity among them. By extension, the factor analyses showed the size of biased individuals identify themselves primarily in terms of age, ethnicity and gender. This dimension is clearly distinct from the other which seeks to place individuals in a context defined in terms of geographic region, urban fringe and mainstream political system
