ABSTRACT: In order to analyze the relationships between the perception that students have of parental involvement in education and regulation for learning, a quantitative study of correlational in nature and comparative, where 218 students of 5th and 6th grade participated in a school was conducted belonging to a group of schools in Setúbal. Three instruments were used. One evaluates the perception of parental involvement "My parents and my education", the other evaluates the perception of "Feelings / attitudes towards parental involvement in schooling ", and finally the regulation of students for learning "Why I do things?". The data showed that there are significant differences in the relationship between perception of parental involvement and regulation for learning. Students with higher perception of parental involvement have higher levels of intrinsic regulation. In the relationship between the perception of parental involvement and academic performance (number of failures) it was also found that there are significant differences. The greater the number of failures, the lower the perception of parental involvement. As regards the relationship between regulation for learning and academic performance are also significant differences. The greater the number of failures, the regulation is intrinsically less. In regulation for learning, by gender, significant differences were found benefiting the boys in almost all dimensions except the dimension intrinsic regulation. About the relationship between perception of parental involvement, by gender, no significant differences.
