A experiência da maternidade em mulheres que sofreram de anorexia e bulimia

O objectivo é identificar as características parentais de mulheres que sofreram de anorexia e bulimia antes da maternidade. Os participantes foram quatro mulheres, com idades compreendidas entre os 25 e os 39 anos de idade, que sofreram de perturbações do comportamento alimentar (anorexia e bulimia) durante a adolescência e início de idade adulta e que, actualmente, têm filhos entre 1 e 12 anos de idade. Realizaram-se entrevistas semi-estruturadas que foram gravadas e analisadas segundo o método da “Grounded Theory”. Verifica-se uma história comum marcada por uma grande dificuldade em lidar com o corpo e com os afectos e uma baixa auto estima que se revela em sentimentos como o medo de incapacidade ou insegurança na relação com os filhos. As relações de parentalidade aparecem marcadas por sentimentos de grande culpabilização, sobretudo nos primeiros meses de vida da criança, e atitudes de prevenção e cuidado dirigidas para saúde dos filhos. Os resultados indicam também relações de grande proximidade, protecção e preocupação manifestada em relação aos filhos que se vêm a desenvolver após uma fase de afastamento inicial. Este é o primeiro estudo que aborda as características parentais destas mulheres de um modo tão profundo, não se restrigindo à sua classificação ou comparação com mulheres sem este tipo de problemas.

ABSTRACT The aim is to identify the parenting characteristics of women who suffered from anorexia and bulimia before motherhood. The participants were four women, aged between 25 and 39 years old, who suffered from the eating behavior disorders (anorexia and bulimia) during adolescence and early adulthood and which currently have children between 1 and 12 years of age. There were semi-structured interviews that were recorded and analyzed by the method of "Grounded Theory." There is a common history marked by great difficulty in dealing with the body and the affections and a low self esteem that it is in feelings such as fear of failure or insecurity in the relationship with their children. The relationship of parenting is marked by great feelings of blame, especially in the first months of life and attitudes of prevention and care directed to health of children. The results also indicate particularly close relationship, protection and concern expressed in relation to the children who come to develop after an initial phase of removal. This is the first study that addresses the characteristics of these women parenting in a way so profound, is not to restrict their ranking or comparison with women without such problems.
