Este estudo pretende relacionar a motivação para a disciplina de Português com as variáveis: género, ano de escolaridade, repetência, clima de sala de aula, Auto-conceito e Auto-estima. Participaram trezentos e nove alunos, sendo que cento e vinte seis frequentavam o 10º, sessenta e quatro o 11º e cento e dezanove o 12º ano de escolaridade. Cento e sessenta e dois do género feminino e os restantes ao género masculino. Utilizámos três instrumentos: para avaliar a motivação para a disciplina de Português utilizámos a Escala “Eu e o Português”, para avaliação da percepção do clima de sala de aula recorreu-se à Escala “Na sala de aula” para avaliar o Auto Conceito/Auto-Estima usou-se a Escala “Como é que eu sou?”. Dos resultados obtidos verificámos uma relação entre a motivação e o género, para as dimensões: Prazer, Competência Percebida e Valor. Constatámos ainda que as raparigas, percepcionando-se mais competentes atribuem mais prazer e valorizam mais a disciplina de Português do que os rapazes. Relativamente à relação entre motivação e as variáveis ano de escolaridade e repetência, não se verificaram diferenças significativas. Quanto à percepção do clima de sala de aula, verificou-se que existem correlações positivas entre: o Suporte Social do Professor, Atitudes face à disciplina de Português e Aprendizagem Cooperativa com as dimensões motivacionais: Prazer; Competência Percebida e Valor. Na variável Auto-conceito, constatámos que existem correlações significativas e positivas com as dimensões motivacionais: Prazer, Competência Percebida e Valor. Na variável Auto-estima não se verificaram correlações estatisticamente significativas com as dimensões motivacionais em estudo.
ABSTRACT: The present study intends to relate motivation concerning the Portuguese language learning with the following variables: gender, year of scholarship, failure, classroom environment, self concept and self esteem. Three hundred and nine pupils participated of which one hundred and twenty six were attending the 10th, sixty four were attending the 11th and one hundred and nineteen were attending the 12th year. One hundred and sixty two were females and the remaining were males. Three evaluation tools were used. To evaluate motivation towards the study of the Portuguese language we used the scale “ I and the Portuguese ”; to evaluate the perception of the classroom environment the scale of “ In the classroom “was used; to evaluate the self concept and self esteem the scale “ How am I?” was used. Analyzing the final results, a relation between motivation and gender was verified, concerning the dimensions “pleasure”, perceived competence “ and “ value “. In addition females, considering themselves more competent, overvalue the Portuguese more than males. Concerning the relation between motivation and the variables “year of scholarship “and “repetition “, no significant differences were verified. Considering the perception of “classroom environment “ positive correlation was verified among “ teacher social support “, “attitudes towards the Portuguese” and cooperative learning” with the motivation dimensions “ Pleasure “ “perceived competence “and “ value “. Looking at the “self concept “ variable it was verified that significant positive correlations “ exist with the motivation dimensions “pleasure” “perceived competence and “ value” . Concerning the “self esteem “variable “no statistic significant correlations were found with the motivational dimensions under study.
