ABSTRACT: This work aims to systematize the concept of creativity and of the psycho-emotional fundamentals which determine and sustain both a creative dynamic and creative activity. Working from a psychoanalytic perspective, we hope to distinguish those authors who affirm that the creative impulse results from the reparation of the object which was destroyed by the destructive impulses (Reparation of the Object), from those who defend reparation as a way to achieve the integrity of the subject, because it is the subject himself that feels damaged (Reparation of the Self). So as to illustrate the above, five artists have been analyzed: Ruth Weber, Frida Kahlo, Ingrid Betancourt, Toulouse Lautrec and René Magritte. By studying these artists we conclude that all of them saw art as a way of repairing the self or a way of repairing the object that they had unconsciously destroyed. Given this creative dynamic, the main mechanisms used are sublimation and reaction formation.
