A teoria das born globals surgiu em 1993 e desde então, tem desafiado várias teorias de internacionalização. Este conceito refere-se a empresas que vêem o mercado global como o seu espaço de actuação e cujos empreendedores são cruciais na internacionalização da empresa. Este trabalho analisa, por isso, o impacto do empreendedor internacional na criação e desenvolvimento das born globals. Com base numa revisão de literatura, desenvolveu-se um modelo conceptual que especifica a interligação entre as duas variáveis em estudo - perfil internacional do empreendedor e born global. Apesar de o estudo ser exclusivamente teórico, foi possível desenvolver proposições para investigação futura. Este estudo clarifica, em particular, a relação positiva entre o conhecimento e a personalidade do empreendedor e a criação e desenvolvimento das born globals.

The theory of born globals emerged in 1993 and since then has challenged several theories of internationalization. This concept refers to companies that regard the global market as their natural context and whose entrepreneurs are crucial in the internationalization of the firm. This study analyses, therefore, how the international profile of the entrepreneur influences the creation and development of the born globals. Based on literature review, it was possible to develop a framework that specifies the link between the two variables under study – international profile of the entrepreneur and born global. Although this study is exclusively theoretical, it was possible to develop propositions for future research. This study clarifies, in particular, the positive association between the knowledge and personality of entrepreneur and the creation and development of born globals.
