Era objetivo geral desta investigação analisar as relações entre trabalho e saúde, no setor da radioterapia, partindo-se da premissa de que a forma como o trabalho é realizado tem um impacto sobre a saúde dos trabalhadores. Particularmente, almejava-se compreender como é que os profissionais de radioterapia avaliavam as suas condições de trabalho, qual a sua perceção sobre o seu estado de saúde e o tipo de relação que estabeleciam entre a sua saúde e o seu trabalho. Esta investigação, de índole qualitativa, foi desenvolvida numa organização de saúde, contando com a participação de nove trabalhadores com funções distintas. O Inquérito Saúde e Trabalho [INSAT_2010] (Barros, Cunha, & Lacomblez, 2010) foi o instrumento privilegiado para a recolha dos dados. Concluiu-se que os profissionais de radioterapia avaliam as suas condições de trabalho como sendo satisfatórias, não estabelecendo uma ligação direta entre o seu estado de saúde e o exercício da sua atividade profissional. No entanto, quando questionados explicitamente sobre determinados problemas de saúde e a sua relação com o trabalho os participantes identificaram o trabalho enquanto fonte de diversos problemas de saúde, nomeadamente, problemas músculo-esqueléticos, dores de costas, varizes e adormecimento dos membros. As conclusões gerais desta investigação demonstraram, uma vez mais, que a relação estabelecida entre a saúde dos trabalhadores e a sua atividade profissional não é evidente, mas antes pautada por diversas complexidades.
It was the main goal of this investigation to analyze the relations between work and health, in the radiotherapy department, starting from the premise that the way how work is performed has an impact in the workers’ health. Particularly, the intention was to understand how the radiotherapy professionals evaluated their work conditions, which was their perception on their health and the type of relationship that was established between their health and their work. This investigation, of qualitative nature, was developed in a health organization, counting with the participation of nine workers with distinct functions. The Work and Health Inquiry [INSAT_2010] (Barros, Cunha, & Lacomblez, 2010) was the privileged instrument used for the data collection. It was concluded that the radiotherapy professionals evaluated their work conditions as being satisfactory, without establishing a direct connection between their health and the exercise of their professional activity. However, when explicitly questioned about certain health problems and their relation with work, the participants identified work as the source of several health problems, namely, musculoskeletal problems, backache, varicose vains and numbness of the limbs. The general conclusions of this investigation demonstrated, once again, that the relation established between the workers’ health and their professional activity isn’t evident, but yet guided by several complexities.
