Description
The purpose of this report is the reflexive analysis of the skills acquired and developed during the clinical practice in mental health and psychiatry specialization course, serving as the document that will be object of evaluation for the attainment of masters’ degree in the referred area. The clinical practice period was divided in three areas, lifestyles promotion, diagnostic and prevention, adult crisis intervention and psychosocial rehabilitation. The use of therapeutic relationship techniques was transversal in this route, recognising that they are the excellence tool in mental health and psychiatry nursing. In I module, I could integrate the “Healthy Night” Project, of the non-governmental organisation, Doctors of the World, an international aid organisation. I could give primary care to homeless people, knowing their specific vulnerabilities. The results included the establishment of therapeutic relationships and where limited by the specific difficulties of the work with this population, characterized with sporadic and single contacts. In II module, I worked in the psychiatric emergency of de Lisbon Psychiatric Center (CHPL), giving care to individuals and families in crisis. I develop specific work in admission and managing the therapeutic environment, contributing to health gains, as they play a significant role in individual functioning, affecting cognitive, emotional and physical processes. In module III, I could integrate the multidisciplinary team of CHPL, Day Hospital, developing therapeutic group activities and training of social skills, among others, promoting the recovery and social rehabilitation of the people who frequented day hospital. The gathering between theorical knowledge and a reflexive clinical practice, allowed the building of a professional identity as a specialized nurse in mental health and psychiatry in a dynamic learning process.
