Esta tese concentrar-se-á, de modo geral, numa série de problemas de interpretação que têm a ver com argumentos e modos de construir argumentos. Serão descritos trêsargumentos que foram consensuais, e hegemónicos, para a teoria literária do século XX. Estesargumentos serão questionados individualmente, e agrupados depois numa família deexplicações acerca da natureza da interpretação literária e, por inerência, da literatura. Seráproposto que esse ponto de vista é desadequado, e tentar-se-á demonstrar que existe uma alternativa mais útil.

This thesis will focus, generally, on a set of problems that are related to arguments and ways of building arguments. Three main arguments, which have been peacefully accepted and hegemonic to the XXth century's literary theory, will be described. The three arguments will be questioned each at a time, and then put together under a family of explanations about literary interpretation and, inherently, about literature itself. It will be proposed that the pointof view held by that same family is inadequate. In the last section, I will try to prove that thereis a feasible alternative to it.
