Over the years, the lighting has gone through great changes and, as the theme of sustainability gained strength and prominence, the companies and designers of that area also had to adapt to technological advance encouraged by the growing responsibility with the environment. In this context, based on the conscious use of light, the focus becomes the efficient and economic illumination, whether natural or artificial, and where possible, with the integration of both. Thus, this research deals with the practices of natural and artificial lighting applied to interior design with a sustainable approach, presenting various possibilities of lighting and proving through calculations, simulations and analyzes of the interior spaces, the amount of light required to obtain the visual comfort and, at the same time, some lighting tools to achieve the energy efficiency. To accomplish this aim, the work was divided into distinct parts: sustainability and ecodesign, illumination concepts, artificial lighting, natural lighting, and finally, the presentation of a methodology which integrate the natural and artificial lighting, to the development of two illumination projects – an office and a residence
