Esta dissertação, faz uma reflexão sobre a temática da “Praça”, como elemento de organização urbana e social, inserida na sociedade contemporânea. Ao longo da história das cidades, a Praça sempre desempenhou um papel importante para a sua sociedade. No início, era neste local onde decorriam as maiores atividades sociais, como por exemplo o mercado, onde eram feitas trocas de bens. A Praça, também era o local onde grandes pensadores da época se reunião e debatiam os grandes temas da atualidade e, com isso, surgirão novas filosofias e correntes de pensamento, a nível urbano, era geradora de vias que estruturavam uma cidade e por vezes, criava uma malha urbana. Este local, na maior parte das vezes, sempre foi um sítio que recebia cidadãos, produção e cultura e de lá saiam as vivências e convívios sociais, comércio e lazer. Com o decorrer do tempo, estes espaços foram-se transformando devido às características das suas sociedades, ajustando-se às exigências que elas lhe imponham. Mais recentemente, devido principalmente à abertura de grandes centros comerciais, que oferecem melhor qualidade a nível de escolha, conforto e comodidade em estacionar o automóvel, à rápida evolução tecnológica e com isso a aquisição de novas práticas quotidianas, à mobilidade desta sociedade que não para e vive em constantes deslocações, a praça perdeu muitos utilizadores, contribuindo para a perde de valores intrínsecos ao seu conceito, como a sociabilização e cidadania. Com isto, é necessário adequar a praça a uma sociedade contemporânea, que se modificou tanto em tão pouco tempo, respondendo às suas necessidades sem que este espaço caia em desuso.
Abstract: This dissertation, it does a reflection on the theme of the “Square”, like element of organization urbane and social, inserted in the contemporary society. Along the history of the cities, the Square always fulfilled an important paper for his society. In the beginning, it was in this place where the biggest social activities were passing, like for example the market, where they were made fun of goods. The Square, also it was a place where great thinkers of the time if meeting and they were debating the great subjects of the present and, with that, will appear new philosophies and currents of thought, at urbane level, it was a creator of roads that were structuring a city and for times, it was creating an urbane mesh. This place, in most of the times, was always a siege that was receiving citizens, production and culture and of there the existences go out and gatherings social, commerce and leisure. In spite of resulting from the time, these spaces were transformed when the characteristics of his societies were owed, on him being adjusted to the demands that you link impose him. More recently, owed principally to the opening of great commercial centres, which offer better quality in terms of choice, comfort and comfort in parking the automobile, to the quick technological evolution and with that the acquisition of new everyday practices, to the mobility of this society that not for and he lives in constant dislocations, the square lost many users, contributing for it her loses of intrinsic values to his concept, like the socialization and citizenship. With this, it is necessary to adapt the square to a contemporary society, which was modified so much in a little time, responding to his necessities without which this space falls into disuse.
