Apesar de ser um fenómeno ainda pouco conhecido e discutido, alguns
estudos indicam que o bullying é uma das maiores preocupações dos jovens
entre os 10 e os 18 anos de idade, provavelmente porque um número elevado
deles já esteve envolvido em incidentes de agressividade, quer como vítimas,
quer como agressores.
Estudos realizados em diferentes países (Olweus, 1989; Whitney & Smith,
1993), mostraram que o bullying nas escolas está difundido e é um problema
internacional.
Nas escolas portuguesas foi feito um levantamento da situação do 1º ano ao 6º
ano de escolaridade obrigatória, com idades sobretudo entre os 6 – 12 anos
(Pereira, Almeida, Mendonça & Valente, 1996).
O presente trabalho pretendeu estudar duma forma tão empírica quanto
possível a temática do bullying, fazendo um levantamento da revisão de
literatura sobre o mesmo e procurando respostas para algumas questões
levantadas relativamente ao bullying e às suas características.
Para tal procedemos a um estudo através dum questionário de auto -
preenchimento pelos alunos, para ficar a conhecer o seu quotidiano escolar,
no que à violência escolar e, mais particularmente ao bullying diz respeito.
Os dados recolhidos foram tratados estatisticamente em função dos objectivos
do trabalho.
Foram encontradas correlações estatisticamente significativas e negativas no
que diz respeito ao bullying em função da idade.
Também foram encontradas algumas diferenças relativas ao bullying,
particularmente no que se refere a algumas das suas características, em
função do género.
Foram adiantadas algumas explicações possíveis para os resultados obtidos.
ABSTRACT: Although being a subject not very knower and studied, some studies indicate
that bullying it’s one of the biggest preoccupations of young students, between
10 and 18 years old, maybe because a large number of them have been
involved in acts of aggression, as victims or as aggressors.
Studies made in different countries (Olweus, 1989; Whitney & Smith, 1993),
showed that bullying is widespread and it’s an international problem.
In Portuguese schools have been made a study about the situation in the 1`st
to the 6`th grade of obligation school system, with ages between 6 and 12
years old (Pereira, Almeida, Mendonça & Valente, 1996).
This work wanted to study in such empiric way as possible the bullying, making
a literature review about it and trying to find answers for some questions done
about the bullying and its characteristics.
For that we have made a study using a questionnaire of self-reported to
students, so that we could know better they’re scholar living, in what school
violence concern and, particularly what bullying concern.
The collected data were statistical treated in function of the objectives as
hypothesis of work.
We have found some differences in what bullying concerns in function of the
age.
We also have found some differences about bullying, particularly about some of
it’s characteristics, in function of the gender.
