Estamos conscientes da importância que a escola deve representar na vida das crianças ciganas e também da necessidade urgente de estabelecer com as suas famílias uma relação de cooperação que conduza à melhoria da qualidade do ensino e ao desenvolvimento global dos alunos. No entanto, constatámos a existência de lacunas no modo como esta relação é efectivada. Face a isso, o objectivo deste projecto centrou-se na relação escola-família, escutando as vozes dos actores sociais desta minoria étnica, de forma a criar lhes a oportunidade de realçarem os seus interesses, divergências e expectativas em relação à escola, tendo em vista uma maior e melhor integração destes na comunidade escolar que se assume cada vez mais multicultural. Sob o ponto de vista metodológico a investigação participativa realizada no 1º Ciclo, da Escola da Luz, assumiu uma natureza qualitativa e quantitativa. Para o efeito desenvolvemos conversas com as crianças e observámos os seus tempos livres, efectuámos entrevistas às professoras e aplicámos um inquérito por questionário às famílias. O trabalho realizado permitiu-nos constatar que face à diversidade e clivagem cultural é necessário actuar, porquanto as famílias ciganas mais jovens começam a mostrar receptividade à mudança Com este projecto esperamos ter contribuído para criar uma visão mais alargada por parte dos pais e dos seus filhos quanto à importância do percurso escolar na vida destes e, ainda, melhorar o conhecimento dos progenitores quanto às aspirações futuras das suas crianças. Pretendemos, também, que este trabalho possibilite ampliar o conhecimento sobre esta realidade e promova a elaboração de novos projectos que tragam maior visibilidade ao grupo cigano. ABSTRACT: We are aware about the importance that school should represent in the life of gypsy children as well as about the urgent need of establishing with their families a relation of cooperation in order to improve teaching quality and the global development of the students. However, we noticed the existence of some gaps in the way this relation is brought into effect. So, the objective of this project was focused in the school-family relation, paying attention to the voices of the social actors of this ethnic minority, in way to create for them the opportunity of highlighting their interests, divergences and expectations concerning school, having in mind their higher and better integration in the school community which is assumed to be more and more multicultural. From the methodological point of view, the participative investigation carried out in the Primary School, of Escola da Luz, assumed a qualitative and quantitative nature. With that purpose we developed conversations with the children and observed their leisure times, effectuated interviews to the teachers and applied an inquiry for questionnaire to the families. The fulfilled work has allowed us to notice that face to the diversity and cultural cleavage it is necessary to act, since younger gypsy families are beginning to reveal some receptivity to change. With this project we have contributed to a broader view of parents and their children about the importance of schooling in their lives and even improve the knowledge of parents regarding the future aspirations of their children. We also wanted to enable this work to increase knowledge about this reality and promote the development of new projects that bring greater visibility to the gypsy group.
