The Portuguese private security legal framework created the regulated profession of Security Director, set forth the respective job description and its mandatory training. In order to better understand the evolution potential of this profession, it was searched what novelty it brings, what is it for and what are its advantages. Through bibliographic review, it was summarized the current knowledge state about this function. Data were collected from the immersion of this author in the academic and professional reality of Security Director, and from a survey questionnaire of a representative sample of those trained for it. It was concluded that: The role of Security Director brings greater ethics to the private security system, better legal compliance, better communication between Public Security Forces and private security; by requiring a minimum qualification and training in a higher education institution to access the profession, it is possible to provide an improved security service and also to develop this sector of activity; if this function is exercised with a holistic view, it allows a greater level of global safety and security (not just against intentionally caused risks). The following legislative and formative evolutions of the profession are envisaged: a more holistic view (safety and security); requirement of a higher academic degree and specific training in security, to access the profession.
O regime jurídico português da segurança privada criou a profissão regulada de Diretor de Segurança, descriminou as suas funções e a sua formação obrigatória. Para conhecer o potencial de evolução desta profissão, pesquisou-se o que traz de novo, para que serve e qual a vantagem. Resumiu-se o estado do conhecimento desta função, por revisão bibliográfica. Recolheram-se dados da imersão deste autor na realidade académica e profissional de Diretor de Segurança, e de inquérito por questionário a amostra representativa dos formados para a profissão. Concluiu-se que: A função de Diretor de Segurança traz maior ética ao sistema de segurança privada, melhor cumprimento da legalidade, melhor comunicação entre Forças e Serviços de Segurança Pública e a segurança privada; Ao ser exigida uma habilitação mínima de acesso à profissão e uma formação habilitante em instituição de ensino superior, pode propiciar um melhor serviço de segurança e o desenvolvimento deste setor de atividade; Se esta função for exercida com uma visão holística permite um maior nível de segurança global (não apenas contra riscos intencionalmente causados). Perspetivam-se como evoluções legislativas e formativas da profissão: visão mais holística da segurança; exigência de um grau académico superior e formação específica em segurança, para acesso à profissão.
