Description
This study intends to analyze if the accounting information disclosed in the accounting notes is value-relevant, to the portuguese listed firms. For that, was constructed one Disclosure Index according to Gaio & Mateus (2014) and were used the Simple Models of Price (Ohlson, 1995) and Return (Easton & Harris, 1991) and the Extended Models of Price and Return (Alfaraih & Ianezi, 2011), to analyze the relevance of the disclosed information. The results suggest that, in average, the Portuguese listed firms disclose around 80% of the items required by IAS 1 and that, by itself, the level of disclosure is not relevant, in other words, the market does not value if a firm disclose more or less information. However, the level of disclosure increases the value-relevance of the Book Value Per Share (BVPS), that is, firms with higher disclose level present information more value-relevant in terms of BVPS.
