A presente dissertação prática incide no estudo do vestuário modular, uma tipologia do vestuário transformável, com a finalidade de averiguar as limitações de opções ainda existentes nesta tipologia de roupa, e apresentar uma solução de design que contornasse um dos limites apurados. O vestuário transformável e modular é uma tipologia de vestuário que possibilita levar mais além a experimentação do design de moda por parte do consumidor, e cujo carácter mutável fá-lo adaptar-se de forma mais criativa às necessidades individuais. Tendo em conta o carácter inconstante e pouco previsível do mercado de moda, alguns designers têm aplicado princípios de transformação ao vestuário com o objectivo de disponibilizar peças menos descartáveis. Contudo, existem ainda algumas limitações quanto às possibilidades de transformação oferecidas pelo vestuário mutável e modular. Apurou-se, com base na revisão da literatura sobre o vestuário transformável e modular e com base no estudo e análise de quinze colecções de vestuário modular, que a maior limitação desta tipologia de vestuário se prende com a possibilidade de alteração e transformação da silhueta, forma e volume. Assim sendo, desenvolveu-se nesta dissertação prática um projecto para a criação de uma estrutura, destinada à aplicação no vestuário, que possibilitasse a transformação da silhueta, forma e volume. O produto final consiste numa estrutura modular que, quando vestida sobre ou sob o vestuário, permite adoptar diferentes silhuetas, formas e volumes. A estrutura pode ser montada de forma a alterar a silhueta de peças de vestuário; como vestidos, camisolas ou saias. A estrutura também pode ser montada sobre a forma de acessórios de moda, como uma mala ou um colar, ou pode ainda servir de elemento decorativo, assumindo o papel de abajur. Embora estas sejam algumas das aplicações exploradas, a verdade é que a estrutura permite também ao consumidor criar as suas próprias alternativas, e adequar a estruturar ao que mais lhe prouver. Desta forma, o produto final da investigação prestou-se à comprovação da eficiência da modularidade para a polivalência de designs no vestuário, assim como à comprovação da relevância da silhueta na oferta de peças polissémicas.
ABSTRACT – The following dissertation by practice focuses on the study of modular clothing,a category of transformable clothing. The purpose of this research is to find the limitations associated with the available options for transformation that still exist within this type of clothes, and create a design solution that overcomes one of the restrictions that was found. The modular and transformable clothing is a kind of garment that enables a higher level of experimentation of design to the consumer. Its mutable nature allows the individual to adapt it to his needs in a more creative way. Taking in consideration the unpredictable nature of fashion industry, some designers have applied principles of transformation to clothing with the objective to make it more sustainable. However, there are still some restrictions that relate to the possibilities offered by changeable and modular clothing. Based on the review of the literature on the transformable and modular clothes and through a study and analysis of fifteen modular collections, it was found that the main limitation of this type of clothing concerns the possibilities for transformation of the silhouette, shape and volume. Therefore, it was developed in this dissertation by practice a modular structure,that can be applied to garments, in order to allow a transformation of the silhouette, shape and volume. The structure developed can be mounted to change the silhouette of garments such as sweatshirts, dresses or skirts. The construction can also be assembled on the form of fashion accessories, such as a bag or a necklace, or it can function as a decorative element as for example, assuming the role of a lampshade. Besides these applications explored in this study, the structure also allows consumers to create their own alternatives, and renovate the design according to their needs. This way, the end product proved the efficiency of the application of a modular system to offer versatility in transformable clothes, and it showed the relevance of the silhouette once it was offered different understandings within the same design.
