Between the 16th and 18th centuries, the All-Saints Royal Hospital was the most important medical, surgical and assistance institution in Lisbon. Its general characteristics, as well as the policies that motivated its creation and deactivation, are well known to historians who have considered the subject, but also to all those interested in the history of Lisbon, particularly about the 1755 Earthquake, a cataclysm that greatly damaged the famous building, which was demolished a few years later. A number of buildings were part of the estate of the Royal Hospital, which came into its possession in various forms. In each, there was a small plaque with the monogram of that institution by the door. Several of these plaques survived to our days, and were registered by photographer Eduardo Portugal in 1945, by request of Alberto Mac-Bride, a doctor-surgeon and olisipograph, interested in the history of the Royal Hospital of All Saints.
O Hospital Real de Todos-os-Santos foi uma importante unidade de cuidados médico-cirúrgicos e assistenciais, existente em Lisboa entre os séculos XVI e XVIII. As suas características gerais, assim como as políticas que motivaram a sua criação e desativação são conhecidas dos historiadores que se têm debruçado sobre o tema, mas também por todos aqueles que se interessam pela História de Lisboa, em particular sobre o Terramoto de 1755, cataclismo que danificou grandemente o famoso edifício, que foi demolido alguns anos depois. Do património predial do Hospital Real fazia parte uma série de imóveis que chegou à sua posse de diversas formas. Na fachada de cada um deles, junto da porta, existia uma pequena placa com o monograma da instituição. Uma parte significativa dessas placas chegou aos nossos dias, tendo sido registada pelo fotógrafo Eduardo Portugal, em 1945, por indicação de Alberto Mac-Bride, médico-cirurgião e olisipógrafo, interessado na história do Hospital Real de Todos-os-Santos.
