Descrição
With the year 2023 marking 20 years since its approval, UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) is the fundamental guideline for those working in this field, and twenty years on from the approval, it is important to reflect on its importance. To this day, the Convention represents a fundamental milestone not only in terms of recognising the value of humanity's cultural diversity, but also in terms of promoting social cohesion, sustainability, intercultural dialogue and, ultimately, peace. Bearing the above in mind, this collection brings together 23 contributions from national and international researchers with experience and work in the field of intangible heritage studies, with the aim of contributing to a «state of the art» on ICH and the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003).The chapters in this volume deal with several of the aspects mentioned above: the concept of ICH; the state of some inventories; memory reconstruction; material heritage and intangibility; linguistic heritage and oral literature; religious traditions and manifestations; food heritage; ICH programmes and actions; heritage education and social cohesion; gender issues and ICH; case studies; diversity of ICH expressions; cultural landscapes; and ICH, tourism, and sustainability.
