This research is a study about the performance of the PIME (Pontifical Institute of Foreign Missions) in Parintins between 1955-1980, the temporal cut corresponds to the installation of the Prelature until the elevation to the category of Diocese, this period is characterized by the great missionary fervor and the initiatives of these religious in the social and religious field, which can be seen in the many works they have done. It is from the work of these missionaries that the Catholic Church will gain a foothold in the city and the Middle Amazon, these Pathfinders evangelized concerned not only with the religious issue, but also with the social. Thus, this study aims to analyze the performance of PIME in the city of Parintins-AM. To this end, we seek to understand how the evangelization process took place and which instruments the missionaries used in their mission. We also sought to analyze the social work of PIME as a factor in strengthening Catholicism in Parintins, which is the general objective of this work. To meet this objective we will seek to: a) address the history of the Catholic Church in Parintins from the Jesuits to the PIME; b) to analyze the social and religious practices of PIME in the Parintins Prelature; c) identify through the narrative of the laity the meanings that the residents attribute to the work of PIME. A presente pesquisa ?? um estudo sobre a atua????o do PIME (Pontif??cio Instituto das miss??es estrangeiras) em Parintins entre os anos de 1955-1980, o recorte temporal corresponde ?? instala????o da Prelazia at?? ?? eleva????o ?? categoria de Diocese, esse per??odo se caracteriza pelo grande fervor mission??rio e por iniciativas desses religiosos no campo social e religioso o que pode ser percebido nas in??meras obras por eles realizado. ?? a partir do trabalho desses mission??rios que a Igreja cat??lica ganhar?? envergadura n??o somente em Parintins como em outras localidades pertencentes ?? Prelazia, esses desbravadores evangelizavam preocupados n??o s?? com a quest??o religiosa, mas tamb??m com a social. Dessa forma, esse estudo tem como proposta analisar a atua????o do PIME em Parintins-AM. Para isso, procuramos entender como se deu o processo de evangeliza????o e quais os instrumentos utilizados pelos mission??rios na sua miss??o, tamb??m procuramos analisar o trabalho social do PIME como fator de fortalecimento do catolicismo em Parintins, sendo esse o objetivo geral da pesquisa. Para atender esse objetivo elegemos os objetivos espec??ficos a seguir: a) abordar a hist??ria da Igreja cat??lica em Parintins desde os Jesu??tas ao PIME; b) analisar as pr??ticas sociais e religiosas do PIME na Prelazia de Parintins; c) identificar, pela narrativa dos leigos, os sentidos que os moradores atribuem ao trabalho do PIME.
