This paper aimed to understand the social mechanisms founded in candomblé, understood as a religion of African roots in Brazil. By entering this religious system of treatment, subjects will try and confront a number of innovations in their daily lives, broadening their views and perceptions about the causality of the disease, resulting in the consideration of the relationship between “body/mind/orixás (divinity)”, thus opening a new option in terms of therapeutic options for these. Given the complexity of this religion, the group in question – supporters and external customers – reaffirm their solidarity with intra and extra walls, by ensuring the physical and social health of its members, to the extent that precludes antagonistic instances represented by its world view: health/illness, life/death. The balance between these is necessary to assert what becomes indispensable for this: the maintenance of health.

O presente artigo teve como objetivo principal apreender os mecanismos sociais encontrados no candomblé – uma das várias formas de expressões religiosas de matriz africana no Brasil. Ao adentrar neste sistema religioso terapêutico, os sujeitos vão experimentar e se confrontar com uma série de inovações na sua vida cotidiana, ampliando suas visões e percepções sobre as causalidades da doença, repercutindo na consideração da relação entre “corpo/mente/orixá (divindade)”, abrindo desta maneira uma nova opção no que tange às opções terapêuticas para estes. Diante da complexidade desta religião, o grupo em questão – adeptos e clientes externos – reafirma sua solidariedade intra e extra muros através da garantia da saúde física e social de seus membros, na medida em que opõe instâncias antagônicas representadas por sua visão de mundo: saúde/doença, vida/ morte. O equilíbrio entre estas instâncias se faz necessário para a afirmação daquilo que se torna elemento indispensável para o grupo: a manutenção da saúde.
