Arterial hypertension (AHT) is the main risk factor to the cardiovascular disease. It can be classified as primary or secondary. The endocrine causes, such as the Cushing syndrome (CS), represent a source of secondary AHT and should be investigated when facing disease stigmas.The CS is provoked by the increase of the serum cortisol and is considered an unusual cause of AHT. The arteriosclerosis and the cardiac remodeling associated to AHT significantly increase the mortality by cardiovascular causes (CV) and the people who suffer from these conditions have a higher CV risk when compared to the general population. The following case depicts a AHT situation provoked again by endocrine causes, particularly by adrenal carcinoma.
A Hipertensão Arterial (HTA) é o principal fator de risco para doença cardiovascular. Pode ser classificada como primária ou secundária. As causas endócrinas, tal como a síndrome de Cushing (SC), são uma fonte de HTA secundária, devendo estas ser investigadas perante estigmas da doença. A SC é provocada pelo aumento do cortisol sérico e é considerada uma causa incomum de HTA. A arterioesclerose e remodling cardíaco associados a HTA aumentam significativamente a mortalidade por causas cardiovasculares (CV), tendo estes doentes um risco CV superior à população em geral. O seguinte caso relatado retrata uma situação de HTA de novo por causas endócrinas, nomeadamente por carcinoma da suprarrenal.
