This essay comes at a time when much is said and researched about authenticity in tourism and the contact that exists between all players, especially between visited communities and visitors. The study consists of a scientific essay on the main retrospective approaches to the authenticity of tourism and relations between populations, discussed in an analytical and systematic way on a theoretical basis, with the aim of contributing to existing knowledge about the genuineness of tourism and relations between local and external peoples, offering new discoveries, interpretations and perspectives, with a view to fostering debate and research in the sector. We chose to divide the article into three sections, starting by reflecting on different scientific approaches to tourism and authenticity; then, a second part that focused on the analysis of explanatory theories of the attitude of residents and the relationship between guests and hosts; and, finally, an analytical approach to the consequences and impacts of interpersonal relationships in tourism.

Este ensaio surge num momento em que muito se fala e investiga sobre a autenticidade no turismo e o contacto que existe entre todos os players, principalmente, entre comunidades visitadas e visitantes. O estudo consiste num ensaio científico às principais abordagens retrospetivas da autenticidade do turismo e das relações entre populações, discutidas de forma analítica e sistemática numa base teórica, com o objetivo de contribuir para o conhecimento existente sobre a genuinidade do turismo e das relações entre povos locais e externos, oferecendo novas descobertas, interpretações e perspetivas, com vista a fomentar o debate e a investigação no setor. Optámos por dividir o artigo em três secções, começando por refletir sobre diferentes abordagens científicas do turismo e da autenticidade; depois, uma segunda parte que incidiu sobre a análise de teorias explicativas da atitude dos residentes e da relação entre hóspedes e anfitriões; e, finalmente, uma abordagem analítica às consequências e impactos das relações interpessoais no turismo.
