The essential relationship between war and pluralist democracies was defined by Kant in his thesis on the possibility of perpetual peace between the Republican princes. However, democracies are not pacific and continue to wage war against autocracies. In this context, three additional propositions regarding Republican forms of war can be put forward. The first proposition is that democracies find it very difficult to enter into war and also to bring their intervention to an end. The second proposition states that democracies have proved to be incapable of engaging in war with moderation. The third proposition is that democracies insist on a change in the political regime of the States against whom they wage war as a form of legitimizing their military intervention.

A relação essencial entre a guerra e as democracias pluralistas foi definida por Kant na sua tese sobre a possibilidade de uma paz duradoura entre os príncipes republicanos. Mas as democracias não são pacíficas e continuam a fazer a guerra contra as autocracias. Nesse contexto, podem enunciar-se três proposições adicionais sobre as formas republicanas da guerra. Primeira proposição: as democracias têm uma grande dificuldade em entrar em guerra e também em pôr fim à sua intervenção. Segunda proposição: as democracias revelam-se incapazes de travar a guerra com moderação. Terceira proposição: as democracias insistem na mudança de regime político nos Estados contra os quais fazem a guerra como uma forma de legitimar a sua intervenção militar.
