Urban dynamics, risk and types of crime in Portugal

In this paper we intend to understand the continuities and discontinuities that mark the crime recorded in Portugal, in the years 2011 and 2012. We take as main observation lens the socio territorial and population dynamics identified in the country in recent decades. In a brief presentation, we discuss the data collected in the Annual Reports of Internal Affairs Ministry, pointing out the existence of a relations between the registered crime by the polices and the analysis of the distribution of the population through the Portuguese territory, which allows to distinguish three types of demographic concentration (and whose trends tend to intensify in the period from 2001-2011) and the types of crime registered in the police occurrences.

Neste texto procura-se compreender as continuidades e descontinuidades que marcam a criminalidade registada em Portugal, nos anos de 2011 e 2012, tomando como lente de observação principal as dinâmicas demográficas e sócio territoriais identificadas no país nas últimas décadas. Numa breve apresentação e discussão de dados recolhidos nos Relatórios Anuais de Segurança Interna, constata-se a existência de uma relação entre a análise da distribuição da população pelo território português, que permite distinguir três tipos de concentração demográfica (e cujas tendências, tendem no período de 2001-2011 a intensificar) e a análise da criminalidade participada às polícias.
