Permanence of the semipermeable membrane in the newborn skin: a differentiated care
Description
The study aimed to identify the bacterial colonization, after removing the semi permeable membrane of the preterm newborns (PTNB), lower thorax. This is a prospective, exploratory and descriptive study, carried out in the neonatal intensive care unit in Fortaleza-CE-Brazil. The studied population was constituted by ten PTNB weighting <1.500 grams and gestational age < 32 weeks, that received the semi permeable membrane on the skin. The data were collected from March to May 2009, it involved the search to medical records to fi ll the identifi cation data, material collection and analysis of the membrane samples in microbiology laboratory. During the permanence of the semi permeable membrane on the PTNB skin, it was not observed dermatological alteration or presence of infection. The skin cultures had detected Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Serratia and Candida albicans, microorganisms which refl ect the type of nosocomial settling.
