Aiming to contribute to the historiography of book publishing and trade in Portugal, this article deals, in an empirical research, with the framework of the modernization of the Lisbon and Oporto Book Fairs (2009) and the subsequent merging of the respective members of the association. In a context in which the ancestral conflictual factors of associations in the book industry were amplified by business merges, the present study also aims to to strive for appropriate public policies and to mobilize synergies among the various book professions.

Tendo como objectivo dar contributo útil para a historiografia da edição e do comércio do livro em Portugal, este artigo trata, numa pesquisa empírica, o enquadramento da modernização das Feiras do Livro de Lisboa e do Porto (2009) e a subsequente reunificação do respectivo movimento associativo. Num contexto em que os factores de ancestral conflitualidade do associativismo da indústria livreira foram amplificados pela concentração empresarial, o presente estudo visa, igualmente, suscitar adequadas políticas públicas e de mobilização de sinergias entre as diversas profissões do livro.
