The use of bicycles in tourism is gaining an increased number of supporters around the world. It is clear that cycling tourism has a significant potential for tourism and territorial dynamisation. This article aims to identify the potential of cycling tourism in the Eurocity Chaves-Verín, focusing on several areas: cycling routes, accommodation and restaurants, activities and events, and bike-friendly entities. An analysis was performed in the territory located in the North Region of Portugal and Galicia (Spain) – the Eurocity Chaves-Verín, which is a pioneer in cross-border cooperation. The methodology used for this work was qualitative, namely content analysis of interviews and tourist brochures. The results demonstrate that the organisations are aware of the importance of this type of tourism in the territory and its capacities for cycling tourism. However, it was found that there are still limitations, especially in accommodation and restaurants, and the integration of bike-friendly entities that are aware of the cycling market. This study revealed interesting contributions to cycling tourism in this territory, allowing a better perception of this market in academic and territorial terms.
A utilização da bicicleta no setor do turismo tem ganhado cada vez mais adeptos no mundo. É evidente que o turismo ciclável tem grande potencial turístico e de dinamização territorial. Este artigo tem como objetivo identificar o potencial do turismo ciclável na Eurocidade Chaves-Verín, focando-se em várias áreas: percursos cicláveis, alojamento e restauração, atividades, eventos e entidades bike-friendly. Foi realizada uma análise ao território situado na Região Norte de Portugal e Galiza (Espanha) – a Eurocidade Chaves-Verín, pioneira na cooperação transfronteiriça. A metodologia utilizada para este trabalho foi qualitativa, nomeadamente análise de conteúdo de entrevistas e brochuras turísticas. Os resultados demonstram que as organizações estão conscientes da importância deste tipo de turismo no território e das potencialidades que existem para a sua prática. No entanto, verificou-se que ainda existem limitações, sobretudo nos alojamentos e restauração, e na integração de entidades bike-friendly que conheçam o mercado ciclável. Este estudo revelou interessantes contribuições para o turismo ciclável neste território, permitindo uma melhor perceção deste mercado em termos académicos e territoriais.
