Regardless of the tourism development models followed by island territories, the sector as a whole or as a specific component of the tourist activity results in multiple economic impacts whose efforts of quantification have involved several academics and researchers, and the use of different methodologies.Despite the many constraints and vulnerabilities that flog the island Territories, they can improve the performance of their economies not only investing in traditional sectors but also creating conditions to increase the permanence in their territories of tourism revenues. Thus, this literature review allowed to help in the understanding of how the theme of the quantification of the economic impact of tourism has been addressed in the Islands and identify areas and Islands that lack of studies scientifically robust.

Independentemente dos modelos de desenvolvimento do turismo seguidos pelos territórios insulares, o setor no seu todo ou uma componente específica da atividade turística resulta em impactes económicos cujos esforços de quantificação têm envolvido vários académicos e investigadores, e o recurso a várias metodologias. Apesar dos muitos constrangimentos e vulnerabilidades que fustigam os territórios insulares, podem melhorar a performance das suas economias não apenas investindo nos setores tradicionais mas também criando condições para aumentar a permanência nos seus territórios das receitas provenientes do turismo. Assim, esta revisão de literatura permitiu dar um contributo no entendimento do modo como a temática da quantificação dos impactes económicos do turismo tem sido abordada nas ilhas e identificar áreas e ilhas que carecem de estudos cientificamente robustos.
