A Bíblia tem sido relacionada há séculos com a subordinação e violência à mulher no mundo ocidental. Mas uma leitura cuidadosa de seus textos revela que a mulher sempre exerceu um claro protagonismo em todos os principais acontecimentos do povo de Israel e da igreja primitiva. Este artigo faz uma síntese da atuação de algumas mulheres do Antigo e Novo Testamento dentro do contexto cultural e religioso da época levantando apenas a ponta do véu para esclarecer e lançar luz para uma leitura bíblica isenta de questões ideológicas.

For centuries people acussed the Bible as responsible for the subordination and violence against women in the Western world. But a careful reading of her texts reveals that women have always played a main role in all the events of Israel and the early church. This article summarizes the performance of some women from the Old and New Testaments within their cultural and religious context, lifting the tip of the veil to clarify and shed light on a biblical reading free from ideological issues.
