The present paper seeks to reflect on the paths that have been taken and those that are being faced by Diplomatics in the first quarter of the 21st century. The aim of this science remains the same as when Mabillon published the De Re Diplomatica - to verify the authenticity of documental sources - and it has been accepted for some time now that it is open to new periods and new geographies for the analysis of documents. Regarding the methods used by diplomatists to distinguish the veri and falsi, the contribution of digital technologies makes it pertinent to reflect upon and discuss what is, after all, the diplomatist's work and what distinguishes it from that carried out by specialists in other historical fields.
