The supervision and guidance of doctoral candidates have often followed an inconsistent path, frequently due to a lack of clear criteria from supervisors. There is also some misunderstanding regarding the role of the supervisor/tutor, although significant differences are observed in the approaches across different scientific fields. This topic needs further reflection. The paper considers the quality of supervision and progress monitoring in doctoral education paths.
