Este trabalho apresenta o cenário da Atenção Básica à Saúde como campo de atuação do profissional de psicologia com o objetivo de elucidar sua atuação neste âmbito. Descreve algumas atuações do profissional de psicologia, exemplificando os desafios enfrentados no âmbito da Saúde Pública para responder às condições propostas pelos princípios norteadores do Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS e as políticas de humanização delineadas pelo Ministério da Saúde. Seu referencial metodológico foi a metassíntese. O uso deste referencial permitiu analisar a problemática emergente da indefinição característica da prática psicológica a partir de pesquisas primárias qualitativas e elaborar novas sínteses. Como resultado, apresenta o profissional de psicologia atuando em três situações distintas: de conflito; de reprodução e de construção. Evidencia, também, o esforço do psicólogo em construir uma prática pautada na postura dialética em respeito à dimensão ética do atendimento. Apresenta uma estratégia específica da categoria para atuar no âmbito da Atenção Básica à Saúde: a APC - Atuação Psicológica Comunitária. Tais proposições remetem o profissional de psicologia a reflexões sobre sua prática na Saúde Pública e a necessidade de fazer adequações.
This work presents the scenario of the Basic Health Assistance as a field of action for psychologists with the goal of elucidating his action. It also describes some performances of psychologists exemplifying the challenges being faced in the public health sphere in order to answer the conditions that have been suggested by the guiding principles of the Brazilian Centralized Health System (SUS) and those of the humanization politics conceived by the Health Ministry. Its methodological framework was the methasynthesis. The use of this framework has allowed an analysis of the emerging problem of indefinition concerning the psychological practices. That could be achieved through qualitative researches and elaboration of new synthesis. As a result it presents the psychologists working in three different areas: conflict, reproduction and construction. It also brings up the effort of psychologists of building a new practice based on the dialecticin respect of an etic posture towards the treatment and presents a specific strategy to act in the sphere of the basic attention to health: the APC - Communitarian Psychological Treatment. These propositions make psychologists to think on their practice in public health and the need to make adjustments.
