O presente trabalho tem como objecto central de investigação a questão da naturalidade de Fernão de Magalhães. Nesse sentido, procurou-se sistematizar a problemática em causa, começando por contextualizá-la nos discursos sobre a História e a Memória e suas interacções, para depois, a partir da análise crítica dos testemunhos documentais conhecidos sobre a naturalidade de Fernão de Magalhães (um caminho que necessariamente nos levou a explorar os meandros genealógicos do navegador), revisitar a produção historiográfica sobre o tema e as diferentes construções de memórias locais, assentes em apropriações sobre a sua naturalidade. Entendido como projecto de sistematização tendo em vista futuros desenvolvimentos de investigação sobre o tema, terminamos lançando algumas pistas de pesquisa susceptíveis de vir a ser exploradas e trazer novos esclarecimentos.
The present work has as a main objective of investigation, the issue about the place of origin of Fernão de Magalhães. The problem in question was systematised, and then contextualised in the speeches about History and Memory and their interactions. On a second phase, having as a basis the critical analysis of the known documentary testimonies about Fernão de Magalhães place of origin (a path that unavoidably led us to explore the genealogical meanders of this explorer), we revisit the historiographical production about the theme and the different constructions of local memories, based on appropriations about his place of birth. As this project work can be regarded as a systematization exercise aiming future investigation developments on this subject, we finish by launching some research clues susceptible of being explored and bringing new clarifications.
