In the context of structural rehabilitation of concrete structures, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites are usually bonded to concrete substrates using the externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) technique. Although this is a commonly used method in various applications, only a few studies have investigated the long-term performance of such joints. In this study, numerical models to simulate the short- and long-term performance of the EBR CFRP-to-concrete bondline are developed. Using these models, the performance of the bonding before and after four years of water exposure is assessed. The numerical results from both models are compared with results from an experimental investigation previously performed by the authors’ research group, which shows a good agreement.
