The main purpose of this research work was the application, “on site“, of general prevention principles. For this it was necessary to take into account Law nº 102/2009, of september the 10th, amended by Law no. 3/2014 of january 28th, Series I of 2014-01-28, of the Portuguese Official Gazette, which continues to transpose the principles of the framework directive. This framework diretive was, meanwhile, amended by Directive no. 2007/30 / CE, of the European Council of june 20th, modified in 2014, introducing eleven general principles of prevention instead of the previous nine. For the methodology application it was chosen the work at the Mateus Mine, in the city of Vila Real, Portugal as it presented many, and different, risks for the contruction workers evolved. It was necessary to study and characterize this risks for subsequent application of the general prevention principles, “on site“. It was found that the application of these principles contributed to a reduction in risks and, in turn, fewer accidents on site.
