Despite the recent expansion of higher education and the growing demand for professionals in Agricultural Information Management and Precision Farming, Mozambique and Cape Verde still have a shortage of highly qualified specialists who have the ability to train future generations of professionals. In order to give an adequate response to the lack of skilled labor in a sector considered strategically relevant to the socio-economic development of both countries, the Instituto Superior de Estatística de Gestão de Informação da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (ISEGI-NOVA) in partnership with the Universidade de Cabo Verde (UniCV) and the Universidade Católica de Moçambique (UCM) and with support from Esri Portugal, developed a project (AgIM - Agricultural Information Management and Precision Farming) with an implementation period of 42 months. It is intended by the use of GIS, the ability to solve local and regional problems and able to multiply the benefits of transferring the course know-how on Agricultural Information Management and Precision Farming. The first edition of the Master and Postgraduate Course in Mozambique began on March 17th, 2014 and in Cape Verde is scheduled to begin in September 2014.
