Description

"Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer-enclosed particles, released by virtually all cells, that have emerged as crucial players in both physiological and pathological processes, including cancer. EVs ability to act as mediators of intercellular communication is strongly determined by the molecular cargo they carry, which includes a variety of biomolecules like proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, such as double-stranded DNA (dsDNA). Recent studies show that the complex molecular composition of EVs holds great potential as a source of cancer biomarkers; however, multiple barriers exist between these discoveries and the application of EVs as liquid biopsy modalities in clinical practice.(...)"
