The agribusiness of the milk is of the importance fundamental for the Brazilian agricultural section, tends in his view participation in the formation of the income and job of great number of producers, propitiating the man's fixation in the field. Therefore, it is aimed at to present an abbreviation characterization of the cattle milk and to analyze production projections, offer and demand of milk to Brazil, seeking to supply information and subsidies to the producers on the activity milk future. It is verified that starting from 1996, there were an egg white tendency of reduction of the imports of milk and a growth of the exports. The future projections also show an excess of domestic offer that can stimulate an increase of the Brazilian exports. Therefore, the results address a new road for the activity national milk, given his great productive potential and their comparative advantages in relation to other producing countries and exporters.

O agronegócio do leite é de fundamental importância para o setor agropecuário brasileiro, tendo em vista sua participação na formação da renda e emprego de grande número de produtores, propiciando a fixação do homem no campo. Portanto, objetiva-se apresentar uma breve caracterização da pecuária leiteira e analisar projeções de produção, oferta e demanda de leite para o Brasil, visando fornecer informações e subsídios aos produtores sobre o futuro da atividade leiteira. Constata-se que a partir de 1996, houve uma clara tendência de redução das importações de leite e um crescimento das exportações. As projeções futuras também mostram um excesso de oferta doméstica que pode estimular um aumento das exportações brasileiras. Logo, os resultados direcionam um novo caminho para a atividade leiteira nacional, dado seu grande potencial produtivo e suas vantagens comparativas em relação a outros países produtores e exportadores.
