INTRODUCTION: The flexibility may be changed in the menstrual cycle different phases. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to analyze if differences in flexibility in the phases of the menstrual cycle of sedentary women exist. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The sample was composed for two groups of 20 volunteers, with the regular menstrual cycle, and a 4 contraceptive group made use of and the other group not. Referring data to the menstrual cycle and the physical activity had been gotten through application of questionnaires. Flexibility was surveyed through the tests “Fingertip-to-floor” and “Reach behind the back”, in three phases of the menstrual cycle. The statistical treatment was made through descriptive and inferencial analysis (Kolmogorov-Smirnov and ANOVA). RESULTS: The joined results had not demonstrated to significant difference (p < 0,05) in the flexibility of the groups studied, during the phases proliferative, ovulatory and luteal of the menstrual cycle in the tests when analyzing the groups separately. When flexibility was evaluated comparing the two groups, statistical significant difference was observed in the luteal phase by means of the “Reach behind the back” test. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that it did not have significant influence of flexibility in the different periods of the menstrual cycle of sedentary women with contraceptives, except in the luteal phase in the “Reach behind the back” test when the two groups was compared.
