Description
Amid the various transformations that modern society has undergone, the education and the people involved in the educational process are being called to face the challenges arising from the globalization, the economic crises, and the technological advances, and from the growth of poverty. In recent years we have seen the birth of many thoughts, proposals, projects and initiatives that are rooted in the need for revision of old educational concepts. The pedagogy proposed by Paulo Freire that is so widespread in Latin America; the International Conferences of Adult Education organized by UNESCO; the concept of "learning throughout life"; the valorization of new teaching methodologies such as the non-formal education and the four guiding pillars of education in the XXI century proposed by the report prepared by Jacques Delors (Learning to be, Learning to do, Learning to know, learning to live together), overall synthesize the various global initiatives to promote education considering the current challenges. In this work we investigate the Bakery Workshop, promoted by the NGO "Casa de Apoio à Criança Carente de Contagem" (Support Center for poor Children in Contagem) The Bakery Workshop is an educational proposal that aims to articulate ethical, civic and professional formation through non-formal education, with the intention of supplementing formal education and promoting the inclusion of young people at social risk. We chose as the research method to be adopted in the development of this work the qualitative approach. The main instruments for data collection were open interviews and peripheral observation. The objective of the research was to analyze the characteristics and possible contributions of this type of non-formal social education. Finally, we conclude that in the socio-educational practice "Casa de Apoio à Criança Carente de Contagem" (Support Center for poor Children in Contagem) we found significant factors such as the promotion of citizenship, ethics and entrepreneurial actions that allow us to consider it as a different educational alternative, current and viable to the context in which it operates.
