The developed work consists of an introduction and small analysis of the electrical characteristics of photovoltaic modules, the process of IV-PV curve determination, analysis and diagnostic. The small introduction to the photovoltaic technologies gives space to the analysis of their dynamic, factors that influence its output and the technical regulation to what is bound, specifically the EN 60904 and EN 60891. It includes the participation in the development of a Low Cost I-V tracer, designed by Vicente Leite and Jose Baptista and that was built at the IPB of Bragança. The construction of such an electronic circuit causes a lot of satisfaction and even though it still needs some adjustments it already is, and will be developed to be a very important advance in the cost cutting design of I-V tracers. The comparative studies realized to the other equipment available in the market gives out a very promising sight for the development of this kind of instrumentation. After the utilization of the data obtained by the I-V tracer a mathematical modeling stage started based on the propositions of Sera08, khezzar09 and kuntz04, which ended in the development of the paper ‘Determination of Model Parameters of PV Modules Using a Low Cost I-V Tracer’ presented at the Seminar of Automation, Industrial Electronics and Instrumentation 2012 at Guimarães Portugal. At the Ciemat in Madrid some adjustments are made to the I-V tracer and the comparison of the PVPM2540, TRIKA and HT IV-400 started to see the process and results on different technologies. Plus a test is run on the AAA solar simulator of the Ciemat. With this data mathematical modeling is carried on, and the behavior at STC is studied. With the intention of developing a model that included the effect of temperature and radiation it’s concluded that the parameters given by the manufacturer aren’t very certain. The simplified determination of these parameters was realized based on the norm EN 60891. Then a comparison is made between the simulated data and the real behavior obtained, the error is left to the discretion of the application for what it could be needed. The monitoring of the photovoltaic modules is very important for the analysis of degradation and this is a good tool to this effect.
