Description
This study aimed to analyse the integration of the Social Service professionals in the field of seniority. As this is a case study it is restricted to the municipality of Covilhã. Therefore, a study was conducted in four approaches: Social Workers, the Private Institutions of Social Solidarity and the municipality of Covilhã. In order to make a more consistent research, we developed an interview guide and applied it to several professionals inserted in Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS) with three services (ERPI, SAD and CD) in the county. Subsequently, the results were analysed and compared with data collected from the Census, the National Institute of Statistics and Pordata. The topic is quite contemporary and relevant, due to the national reality. On the one hand, the increasing rates of unemployment and emigration, and the other an aging population and rising social cases. It was concluded that the interviewed professionals had some performance constrains regarding the excessive workload, the everyday problems associated with the elderly (physical and mental dependence, Grief, inhumane conditions), however they revealed some ease and speed in obtaining their first job.
