A presente investigação debruça-se sobre o estudo do envelhecimento rural, escolhemos o concelho do Crato distrito de Portalegre por este se encontrar demasiado envelhecido e porque a sua população se dedicou ao trabalho agrícola no passado recente. Pretendeu-se com este estudo compreender a problemática, recorrendo a histórias de vida de pessoas que sempre trabalharam na agricultura, atividade predominante na época do Estado Novo e só abandonada após a democracia. Através de entrevistas semiestruturadas tentámos compreender esta problemática, tivemos como objetivo dar voz a todos aqueles que foram silenciados no período do Estado Novo e ignorados por esta democracia, para que assim as suas vidas sejam valorizadas pelas gerações mais novas e para que o seu esforço não tenha sido em vão. Este estudo revela que tiveram vidas atribuladas, passaram por grandes dificuldades e que tanto a democracia como a adesão à união europeia pouco lhes valeu, as suas pensões de reforma não lhes permite sair do limiar da pobreza. Pretendemos avaliar a satisfação dos ganhos adquiridos em relação aos cuidados primários de que hoje usufruem, de que forma o trabalho rural e as dificuldades vividas lhes permitem enfrentar a velhice de uma forma mais saudável ou o contrário se precisam nos dias de hoje de mais cuidados médicos na velhice, derivado à falta de condições que lhes causou doenças profissionais, isto porque ser trabalhador agrícola na época significava um esforço físico enorme. Para uma melhor avaliação utilizámos a escala de barthel. Foi do nosso interesse saber através das suas histórias de vida de que forma ocupam o seu tempo, quais os tipos de necessidades que sentem, o que lhes faz falta para que a velhice seja agradável e prazerosa.
The present investigation intends to study the rural ageing. For this purpose we chose the municipality of Crato, district of Portalegre, because this district is too aged and for the fact that its population have dedicated themselves to the agricultural work in the recent past. The intention of this study was to understand the issue, resorting to the life stories of the people who worked in agriculture, the predominant activity in the period of the New State, and only abandoned after the democracy. Through half-structured interviews we tried to understand the problem, with the goal of giving a voice to all of those who were silenced in the period of the New State, and completely ignored by this democracy, so that their lifes are valued by the younger generations and their effort was not in vain. This study reveals that this people had troubled lives, went through great difficulties and that both the democracy as the EU membership did very little for them, their retirement pensions don´t allow them to get past the poverty threshold. We intend to avaluate the satisfaction of the acquired winnings in relation to the primary care they have today, the way the rural work and the difficulties experienced allowed them to face the old age in an healthier way or if on the contrary they need more medical care nowadays due to the lack of conditions that caused them deseases, because being a agricultural worker at that time meant a huge physical effort. For a better avaluation we used the Barthel scale. Was in our best interest to find out through their lives stories, in what way do they occupy their time, what are the needs they experience and what is missing so that their old age can be pleasant and pleasurable.
