Tendo por base o território litoral no Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, nomeadamente a região de Porto Covo, este estudo pretende analisar as questões ligadas à densidade de uso do território à luz dos conceitos ambientais. Para tal recorreu aos instrumentos de ordenamento territorial de modo a perceber não só como estes funcionam a nível nacional mas também a nível regional e local e quais as instituições de poder e gestão do território em estudo de modo a avaliar o grau de articulação entre elas. E porque se trata de um território inserido num Parque Natural, a abordagem das questões ligadas ao Turismo de Natureza tomam um papel importante já que se trata de formas de Turismo que promovem a preservação e conservação e dos valores naturais, ambientais e culturais. Uma vez que se trata de um território de litoral com uma forte procura turística, houve também necessidade de avaliar as mudanças ocorridas na estrutura territorial pelo que se recorreu, por um lado ao estudo dos modelos e teorias do planeamento e por outro aos modelos e cenários propostos pelo Millennium Ecosystems Assessment, de modo a perceber não só qual o modelo que foi seguido até ao presente mas também qual o modelo que se prevê que este venha a seguir no futuro. Desta forma será também possível determinar por um lado se a atividade turística influenciou a evolução do espaço urbano, natural e o próprio ambiente, e por outro até que ponto a atividade turística pode contribuir para a preservação e conservação dos valores naturais e ambientais de modo a perceber quais os modelos de desenvolvimento a seguir.
Having as a reference the coastal territory in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast, in particular the region of Porto Covo, this study seeks to examine issues connected to the density of use of the territory under the environmental concepts. With the help of the instruments of planning and land management it was possible to understand not only how they operate at a national level, but also at regional and local levels and which are the institutions of power and administration of the territory, on the case study, in order to assess the degree of articulation between them. Due to the fact this territory is housed inside a Natural Park, the activities connected to Natural Tourism take an important role since they are forms of tourism that promote preservation and conservation of natural, environmental and cultural values. Since this is a coastline territory with a strong tourist demand, it was also necessary to assess the land structure changes with the help of the study of the planning models and theories, and by the models and scenarios proposed by the Millennium Ecosystems Assessment, in order to realize not only which model has been followed up to the present, but also which model is predicted to be followed in the future. This way it will be also possible to find out, if the tourism activity has influenced the evolution of the urban and natural space as well as the environment itself, and so to find out how far tourism activity can contribute to the preservation and conservation of natural values and environment in order to realize the development models to follow.
